Four field officers of Bills Micro-Credit Limited have been arrested by the Ghana Police Service following a viral altercation with a woman at Ashongman Estate.
The arrests come after a video circulated widely on social media showing some officers of the company confronting a woman who was carrying a baby. The officers were heard arguing with her over what they claimed was her failure to repay a GH¢300 loan.
In the video, one of the officers is seen seizing the woman’s phone. As she attempted to retrieve it while still holding the baby, she fell to the ground.
The company had earlier announced that it had suspended the officers and handed them over to the police for investigation.
According to a statement issued by the Accra Regional Police Command on March 15, 2026, the Kwabenya District Police Command commenced investigations into an alleged assault incident at Ashongman Estate involving officials of the microcredit company.
Police said the complainant, Hagar Emaser, 42, reported on March 13 that four men from the company visited her residence to demand repayment of a loan facility and allegedly assaulted her during the encounter.
The suspects have been identified as Denis Wornyo, 38; Albert Amarh, 40; Ebenezer Amartei, 23; and Atsu Lawson, 27. They were arrested on Sunday, March 15, and are currently in police custody, assisting with investigations.
In a separate statement, Bills Micro-Credit Limited said the officers captured in the video were immediately suspended following a directive from its board pending the outcome of investigations.
The company earlier condemned the incident and indicated that it had begun internal inquiries to establish the full circumstances surrounding the confrontation.
The Accra Regional Police Command has urged victims of assault and other criminal acts to report such incidents to the police for prompt investigation.
Police also advised individuals with grievances relating to loan transactions or other civil matters to pursue lawful and peaceful means of resolving them.
