Relocation of utility lines likely to delay Motorway expansion works – Project Manger

Project Manager for the Accra-Tema Motorway Expansion project, Ben Sackey, has disclosed that the subcontractor responsible for relocating utility lines to make way for the project has yet to commence work.

Speaking on Tuesday during the launch of beams for the project, Ben Sackey intimated that the subcontractor tasked with relocating essential utility infrastructure has not yet commenced operations, leaving sections of the project untouched.

The stalled work primarily affects areas where vital water pipelines and electricity transmission lines run through the construction zone.

These utilities must be safely relocated before any major construction can proceed.

Sackey noted that without the relocation of these utility lines, construction teams are unable to access and work on significant portions of the site.

“For the motorway, our major challenge is the relocation of utility lines, that is water and ECG lines. We still have the challenge of the subcontractor not working and so we are not working on that section of the road.

“The work is not going on on those sides because there are water lines that need to be relocated, and then we need to shift some high tension poles, and these are the challenges that can affect the completion date of the project.”
