Staff of the Nurses Training College (NTC) in Ho are demanding the return of certain institutional infrastructure currently being used by the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS).
The staff, during a protest, said the facilities were handed over in 2012 when the university was established, following a government directive for the buildings to serve as temporary incubation facilities for the new institution.
According to them, the structures were agreed to be returned to the college once UHAS relocated to its permanent campus.
However, more than a decade later, the facilities remain in use by the university, a situation the staff say is affecting operations, working conditions, and service delivery at the college due to the unavailability of the structures.
They are therefore demanding the early return of the properties to support staff and improve activities at the school. The staff also urged the university authorities to engage them to resolve the matter amicably.
Speaking to Citi News, the convenor of the staff group, James Awudi, said, “It has affected the smooth running of our institution. Staff members who were supposed to benefit from these facilities are now struggling with accommodation and limited teaching infrastructure.
“Our demonstration is not an act of hostility but a call for justice, fairness and respect for institutional properties and rights. We believe in dialogue and lawful processes.
“We respectfully call on the government of Ghana, the Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, the Education and Health Ministries to intervene urgently to ensure that the rightful properties of NTC are returned.”
