The Volta Regional Police Command has issued a clarification over a viral video circulating on social media, stating that it misrepresents the circumstances surrounding a recent seizure of suspected narcotic drugs in the Adaklu District.
The clarification follows a situational report, which alleged that a police service driver was intercepted while transporting the substances and subsequently fled, abandoning the vehicle in a forest before evading arrest
In a rejoinder signed by the Head of the Public Affairs Unit, Chief Inspector Francis Kwaku Gomado, the Command explained that the operation was intelligence-led and professionally executed, contrary to claims captured in the viral footage.
According to the Police, on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at about 6:30 p.m., they received credible intelligence that unidentified individuals had offloaded sacks suspected to contain narcotic substances in a forested area near Ahunda. Acting on the tip-off, a team from the Drug Law Enforcement Unit was deployed to the location.
The team reportedly arrived at about 9:00 p.m. and discovered thirty-nine sacks of dried plant materials suspected to be narcotic drugs concealed in the bush. The exhibits were secured and transported using a police vehicle as investigations commenced.
The Command emphasised that the exhibits are currently in police custody, undergoing forensic examination, and further investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest those responsible.
However, the Regional Command insists that the viral narration does not accurately reflect the facts and has urged the public to disregard it.
“The video does not accurately represent the circumstances of the operation and should be treated with the utmost disregard,” the statement stressed.
The Police further assured the public of their continued commitment to combating illicit drug activities in the region, warning that attempts to misinform or undermine their work will not derail their mandate.
They also called on the public and stakeholders to support ongoing efforts to clamp down on narcotics within the Volta Region.
