The Association of Market Queen Mothers in the Ashanti Region have appealed to traders not to put pressure on the government over the completion of phase 2 of the Kejetia market.

Addressing the media in Kumasi on Wednesday, April 22, the Queen Mother of Dry Fish Sellers, Grace Agyei Darko, said the government has promised to ensure the speedy completion of the project and urged traders to remain patient.

She noted that the previous Mahama administration completed the first phase of the Kejetia market, adding that the current government is also committed to completing the Krofrom market to ease congestion in Kumasi’s Central Business District.

The queen mothers praised the previous NDC government for completing the Asawasi market and the Atonsu market.

They accused the New Patriotic Party of not completing phase 2 and the Krofrom market in their eight years in government.

The market queens called for calm, stressing that work is ongoing to address market infrastructure challenges in the region.

“We are very grateful to President Mahama for completing Phase One of the Kejetia Market. We will continue to pray for him and his wife because they have greatly supported Asanteman, especially the traders.

“The NPP government was in power for eight years, yet they could not complete Phase Two of the market. So, let us not put pressure on President Mahama. We know he is committed to completing the second phase of the Kejetia Market,” she said.
