The Africa Women and Children Conference has rebranded to the African Women and Youth Climate Centre, marking a shift toward a more action-oriented approach to climate advocacy and solutions across the continent.
The transition, announced in Accra on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, signals what the organisation describes as a new phase aimed at strengthening its impact in climate education, clean energy, and the development of women- and youth-led climate enterprises.
In a statement, AFRYWOCCI said the change reflects its growth and a renewed commitment to delivering practical, community-focused climate solutions.
“The escalating climate crisis demands that we accelerate action in driving innovation and sustained impact; and AFRYWOCCI is our response at this critical moment,” the statement said.
Since its inception, AFRIWOCCI has served as a platform for dialogue and advocacy, focusing on issues affecting women, children, and vulnerable communities. The organisation said its work has contributed to shaping climate conversations, building partnerships, and amplifying voices often excluded from decision-making processes.
The newly rebranded centre will place greater emphasis on empowering women and young people as key drivers of Africa’s climate response.
“Across Africa, women and youth are already driving change with creativity, urgency, and bold ideas. Yet they remain underrepresented in the spaces where policies are made and resources allocated,” it noted.
AFRYWOCCI said its expanded focus reinforces the need for climate action that is locally grounded, inclusive, and solution-driven, positioning the organisation as a hub for innovation, partnerships, and climate resilience initiatives.
While adopting a new name, the organisation said it remains committed to its core values of empowerment, inclusion, collaboration, and sustainability, with a continued mission to amplify the voices of women and young people in Africa’s climate discourse.
It also expressed readiness to collaborate with partners and stakeholders across the continent to advance inclusive climate action and long-term sustainable development.
