The Chief Executive Officer of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), Julius Neequaye Kotey, has clarified that no official decision has yet been taken on Voxy vehicles.
His comments come in response to widespread reports and speculation suggesting that the DVLA has already adopted a firm position based on recommendations from a committee established to investigate the use, regulation, and possible restrictions relating to Voxy vehicles.
According to Mr. Kotey, such claims are inaccurate and risk misleading the public.
Addressing journalists on Wednesday, April 15, the DVLA boss emphasised that while a committee was indeed constituted to examine the issue and has since submitted its report, the authority has not yet deliberated on the findings in a formal capacity.
He stressed that due process requires broader consultation before any concrete decisions can be announced.
Mr. Kotey further explained that the next step involves engaging key stakeholders, including the National Road Safety Authority and the Ministry responsible for transport, to thoroughly review the committee’s recommendations and determine the most appropriate course of action.
“A committee was set up. The committee has presented its findings. We have not sat to make any decision as of today. So, I don’t know where the speculations are coming from, but until we sit as a committee with the National Road Safety Authority, DVLA and other stakeholders and the Ministry of Transport, any public pronouncement or other rumours should not hold. We have received the committee’s report.”
