Education think tank Africa Education Watch has called for at least 2% of Ghana’s education budget to be dedicated to inclusive education for persons with disabilities.
The appeal was made during a stakeholder dialogue on inclusive education at the pre-tertiary level, organised by the Centre for Research and Development Alternatives on Tuesday, April 21.
Discussions at the forum exposed significant gaps in school infrastructure and inadequate academic support systems for learners with disabilities, particularly at the basic and secondary levels.
Executive Director of Africa Education Watch, Kofi Asare, stressed the need for urgent and targeted investment to bridge these gaps.
“We need to secure at least 2% of the education budget. That should amount to close to a billion cedis. This will help increase enrolment among children with disabilities, expand special schools at the secondary level, and strengthen inclusive systems at the basic level,” he stated.
