Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has presented a smock—popularly known as ‘fugu’—to newly appointed Black Stars head coach, Carlos Queiroz, as part of efforts to formally welcome him into the country.
The symbolic gesture was made during the official introduction of the coach to the Minister, underscoring what the Minister described as a deliberate move to integrate the Portuguese tactician into Ghanaian culture.
According to the Minister, the presentation reflects the importance of the national team to Ghanaians and the expectation that the new coach embraces the country beyond football.
“This is to usher you into the country and to let you know that you are truly one of us. You are part of us because you are going to be in charge of what is dear to us. This gift is an indication of that,” he stated.
In his response, Coach Queiroz expressed appreciation for the gesture, noting his personal connection to the African continent.
“To be part of the Ghanaian sports family is an honour and privilege for me. I have very strong African roots as I was born and raised in Mozambique, so leading an African country like Ghana into the World Cup would be an unforgettable moment in my life,” he said.
The presentation marks one of the first official engagements between the Minister and the new Black Stars coach as preparations begin for upcoming international assignments.
