The Ghana Police Service has arrested a 22-year-old man in connection with a viral social media video in which he posed as a bandit and made statements that caused fear and panic among the public.
The video, which circulated widely on TikTok, showed the suspect with his face covered and had added the caption, “We are starting from Ghana churches,” a post that sparked alarm and widespread concern online.

In a post on Facebook, the police noted that through intelligence-led operations and surveillance, officers traced and arrested the suspect, identified as Evans Puplampu, on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at Ashaiman Community 22 in the Greater Accra Region.
During interrogation, Puplampu admitted to being the person in the video. He told investigators that he had replicated a trending social media pose “for fun” and did not intend to cause fear or harm.
The police further confirmed that a Samsung Galaxy A15 mobile phone believed to have been used in recording and sharing the video has been retrieved and kept as an exhibit for investigations.
The suspect is currently in Police custody assisting with investigations and is expected to be put before court to face prosecution.
