Several shops at the main lorry station in Navrongo in the Upper East Region were gutted by a devastating fire on Sunday, April 26.

Many traders were left counting their losses and raising concerns about the impact on local commerce.

The blaze, which broke out under unclear circumstances, rapidly spread through a section of the busy transport hub, consuming goods and structures before emergency responders could fully bring it under control.

As of now, the exact cause of the inferno remains unknown, and investigations are expected to be conducted to determine what may have triggered the incident.

Personnel from the Navrongo Central Fire Station responded promptly to distress calls, arriving at the scene in an effort to contain the flames and prevent further destruction.

Their intervention is believed to have helped stop the fire from engulfing other portions of the station, although significant damage had already been done by the time the situation was stabilised.

The incident has left many business owners devastated, as their primary source of livelihood has been abruptly disrupted.

The Navrongo lorry station serves as a critical transportation and commercial hub within the municipality, acting as the main point where residents board vehicles to various parts of Ghana.

With several shops now destroyed, economic activity in the area is expected to suffer a significant setback in the coming days, affecting not only traders but also commuters who rely on the station for daily travel.

Authorities are yet to provide a full assessment of the extent of damage or confirm whether any injuries were recorded.

Meanwhile, affected traders are calling for support as they begin the difficult process of recovery and rebuilding.
