Anti-corruption campaigner Edem Senanu has stated that former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta’s acquisition of lawful permanent residency in the United States does not affect any extradition request that may be pursued by the Government of Ghana.
Speaking in an interview with Citi News on Wednesday, June 17, Mr Senanu explained that residency status and extradition proceedings are separate legal matters.
According to him, the fact that Mr Ofori-Atta has secured permanent residency in the United States should not influence the legal process if the Ghanaian government formally seeks his extradition.
He stressed that the public should allow the legal process to take its course and wait for the government to follow the appropriate procedures required under extradition laws.
“It has no bearing, as it were, on the request for extradition that the government applied for. These are two separate, distinct legal initiatives. Resident status should not have any impact on the extradition request and legal process,” he said.
