The Student Loan Trust Fund (SLTF) will on Wednesday, April 15, begin disbursing academic fees for 10,000 students in public universities under the government’s No Fees Stress policy for the 2025/2026 academic year.
The move forms part of ongoing efforts to expand access to tertiary education financing and reduce the financial burden on students pursuing higher education across the country.
The Fund also announced that 40,000 students in Colleges of Education, Agriculture, and health training institutions have already benefited from the intervention through direct payment of fees to their respective institutions.
During a courtesy call on Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu ahead of the Fund’s 20th anniversary, Chief Executive Officer Dr. Saajida Shiraz said the latest phase of disbursement will cover about 50,000 students in total.
“Today we will commence reimbursement with an initial budget covering 10,000 students from public universities and public tertiary institutions, which means that by the close of today, we will have processed academic fee payments for the 2025/2026 academic year,” she stated.
She explained that the rollout is part of a phased payment structure designed to ensure that all eligible students benefit within the current academic cycle, while improving efficiency in the disbursement process.
