WAEC withholds results of 163 candidates over malpractice

The West African Examinations Council has withheld the subject results of 76 candidates and the entire results of 87 others in the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for private candidates, First Series, over suspected examination malpractice.

This follows the release of the 2026 provisional results for private candidates.

According to the Council, the affected results are being withheld pending the conclusion of investigations into the alleged irregularities detected during the conduct of the examination and the marking process.

In a statement dated Wednesday, April 1, WAEC said, “The Council detected some malpractices during the conduct of the examination and during the marking exercise. In view of that, the subject results of 76 and the entire results of 87 candidates have been withheld pending the conclusion of investigations into the cases of malpractice.”

WAEC advised candidates whose results have been withheld to visit its irregularities portal to access details on the reasons for the action and to receive information on the next line of action.

The Council also cautioned the public against scammers who contact candidates with promises to upgrade their results for a fee, often through mobile money transfers. It stressed that its results database is secure and that all results can be authenticated through official verification channels.

Institutions and organisations were further urged to confirm results directly with WAEC or use its online verification service.

WAEC expressed appreciation to stakeholders for their support in the successful conduct of the examination and the release of the results.
