The Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North, Ewurabena Aubynn, has reinforced the government’s National Apprenticeship Programme with the presentation of essential tools and equipment to apprentices and master craft facilitators in the constituency.

According to her skills development is central to job creation and economic empowerment.

The presentation, held on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at the premises of the Ablekuma North Municipal Assembly, formed part of efforts to translate the government’s apprenticeship agenda into practical support for beneficiaries at the grassroots.

The intervention saw apprentices and their trainers receive working tools aimed at improving productivity, strengthening vocational training and supporting the growth of small-scale trades within the constituency.

Addressing beneficiaries, Madam Aubynn said the initiative demonstrates a commitment to empowering local artisans and creating sustainable pathways for young people to acquire employable skills and become self-reliant.

She emphasized that vocational training remains a critical pillar in tackling unemployment and improving livelihoods, particularly among the youth, and urged beneficiaries to take full advantage of the opportunities provided under the programme.

In a further push to expand opportunities for artisans, the Ablekuma North lawmaker appealed to government and relevant stakeholders to consider engaging tailors and dressmakers in the constituency in the production of school uniforms for pupils.

She noted that, such interventions would not only support local enterprises but also create jobs, reduce unemployment and boost incomes among artisans.

“This is one practical way of linking skills training to economic opportunity,” she indicated, arguing that public procurement can be leveraged to support local industry while delivering social impact.

The Regional Coordinator of the National Apprenticeship Programme, who was present at the event, provided guidance on the programme and outlined opportunities available to beneficiaries, including prospects for skills enhancement and enterprise development.

Officials said the distribution of tools forms part of a broader effort to ensure apprentices are equipped not only with technical knowledge but also with the resources needed to establish themselves in their chosen trades.

The initiative has been welcomed as a significant boost to government’s broader agenda of promoting technical and vocational education as a pathway to employment generation and poverty reduction.

For many beneficiaries, the support is expected to ease startup constraints and improve their ability to transition from training into productive work.

The event also underscored growing efforts by the Ablekuma North MP to align constituency-level interventions with national development programmes, particularly in the areas of youth empowerment, skills training and local economic development.

The MP’s intervention gives practical expression to the National Apprenticeship Programme’s objective of moving beyond policy commitments to tangible support that improves livelihoods.

With the presentation of tools to both apprentices and facilitators, stakeholders say the programme marks another step toward strengthening self-reliance, expanding economic opportunity and resetting prospects for young people in Ablekuma North.
