Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has criticised the handling of the bail application involving Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, also known as Abronye DC, describing the process as unjust and procedurally flawed.
His comments follow developments in a bail application filed on May 14, 2026, which was initially assigned to Criminal Court 2 before being reassigned by the registrar to another court division shortly before the hearing.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, the Minority Leader noted that court session officers later informed defence counsel that the matter had been scheduled for Criminal Court 2, but it was eventually moved to General Jurisdiction 2.
When the case was called, the Attorney General requested additional time to respond to the bail application, despite having been served earlier. The request was granted, and the hearing was adjourned.
As a result, defence counsel was unable to move the bail application, and the matter was postponed. Kwame Baffoe remains in the custody of the National Intelligence Bureau.
Afenyo-Markin described the developments as unfair treatment and raised concerns about delays in the bail process.
Meanwhile, the NPP has also raised concerns about the welfare of Abronye DC after he was not brought to court for proceedings on his bail application.
The party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Fimpong, speaking to the media after a hearing at the High Court in Accra on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, expressed concern over Abronye’s health status, saying his absence from court was troubling.
“Unfortunately, they didn’t bring Chairman Abronye to the court, and we are very worried as to his current health status because we did not see him. It is something we want to put on record that we came to the court, and we did not see our Chairman at the court today. Let us see how tomorrow goes,” he said.
