Residents of Assin Homaho and several surrounding communities in the Assin South District of the Central Region have been left stranded after the Adonsu River overflowed its banks, submerging portions of an abandoned bridge construction project in the area.
The flooding has disrupted movement within the affected communities, forcing the closure of schools and cutting off access routes used by residents for their daily activities.
The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) has since cautioned residents against attempting to cross the flooded section of the bridge due to safety concerns.

Speaking to Citi News, the Assin South District Director of NADMO, Nicholas Adusei Sarpong, said the situation is being closely monitored as authorities work to prevent possible casualties.
According to him, the flooding was triggered by the stalled bridge construction project, which has worsened the impact of the overflowing river.
“The river has overflown its banks and the levels are likely to rise even more. So we are urging residents not to attempt crossing. The flooding has been caused by a bridge construction project that was stalled,” he said.
Mr. Sarpong disclosed that the district office has appealed to the Regional and National leadership of NADMO for urgent support, including canoes and other logistical resources, to help residents cross safely and ease movement in the affected communities.
“We are appealing to the Director-General and the Regional Director of NADMO to send us a canoe and other resources to aid crossing,” he added.
Residents are meanwhile calling for immediate intervention to address the flooding situation and complete the abandoned bridge project to prevent recurring challenges during heavy rains.
