Indigenous mining company Damang Gold Mine Limited has invested $250 million in a major fleet of mining equipment as part of efforts to expand production, improve operational efficiency, and strengthen Ghanaian participation in the country’s mining sector.

The investment, one of the largest recent mining equipment acquisitions by a wholly Ghanaian-owned mining company, includes Liebherr excavators, 30 Caterpillar 777 dump trucks, and 15 Caterpillar 395 excavators.

The equipment is currently being transported from Accra to the company’s operations in Damang, with additional machinery expected to be added to the fleet in the coming months.

The acquisition is expected to significantly increase mining output, enhance productivity, and create employment opportunities across the mining value chain.

Beyond supporting operational growth, the investment underscores growing confidence in the long-term prospects of Ghana’s mining industry and highlights the increasing capacity of indigenous firms to undertake large-scale investments traditionally dominated by multinational operators.

The move could strengthen local content participation in the extractive sector while contributing to export earnings, government revenue generation, and broader economic growth.

The investment also comes at a time when Ghana is seeking to maximise value from its natural resources and deepen local ownership within the mining industry.
