The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has warned supporters not to “run down” their own government out of frustration over delayed appointments, stressing that doing so would ultimately hurt both the party and its supporters.
Addressing party supporters during his “Thank You Tour” at Daboya Mankarigu in the Savannah Region on Saturday, May 16, Mr Asiedu Nketiah cautioned party faithful against publicly criticising the government, especially over appointments, saying such actions could undermine the progress of the administration they worked hard to elect.
He urged Ghanaians and supporters of the ruling NDC not to lose faith in the government of President John Dramani Mahama, insisting the administration is laying the right foundation to reset the country.
“So those of you who brought the NDC government to power, don’t give up. Don’t begin running your own government down. If you do that, you are running yourself down. Let’s focus,” he warned.
According to him, many Ghanaians believe the NDC government has made a strong start and is on the path toward rebuilding the country.
“The rest of the country thinks that NDC has done well and that the NDC government is on the path of reset,” he stated.
Mr Asiedu Nketiah explained that although he continues to advocate improved conditions for party members in his role as National Chairman, he would not encourage attacks on the government because he is aware of the long-term plans being implemented.
“I sit with the government, and I know the good plans the government is implementing. I will not come and instigate you to begin attacking our government,” he added.
Using a food metaphor to appeal for patience, the NDC National Chairman said the country was still in the process of rebuilding and urged supporters not to rush for immediate rewards.
“Don’t let us rush to eat half-cooked food. Let us have patience for the food to be well-cooked before we can begin to struggle about who takes the biggest share,” he said.
He further praised supporters in the area for helping the party secure victory for both the president and the constituency’s Member of Parliament, declaring that the NDC was determined to maintain its dominance in the constituency.
“We have come back onto our winning ways,” he told the crowd. “There is no turning back. We will remain focused till we can beat our chest to say that this is an NDC stronghold and we are not yielding the constituency to any other political party.”
