Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority, Osman Ayariga, has called on digital content creators and citizens to actively participate in governance through constructive criticism and open public discourse.
Speaking at a Digital Media Creators Conference in Accra on Thursday, April 30, he stressed the importance of feedback in shaping effective leadership under the administration of John Dramani Mahama.
“Feel free to post, feel free to create news, feel free to question whatever the government is doing… the government needs that criticism so that we can navigate around the nuances of governance,” he said.
Ayariga noted that the evolving digital landscape has empowered more people to express their views freely, describing the current era as one of unprecedented openness.
“We are in an era where media creation… has become so free that people feel free to air their grievances… there’s press freedom that you’ve never seen before,” he stated.
He added that such engagement is critical to strengthening democracy and ensuring that leadership remains responsive to the needs of citizens.
Beyond encouraging civic participation, Ayariga also highlighted ongoing efforts by the government to improve the economic prospects of content creators, particularly in the area of monetisation.
According to him, the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations has been engaging bloggers and content creator groups, while the Bank of Ghana is also holding discussions around earnings from digital platforms.
“The government is doing its best to help you in the monetisation of your content and how you can earn the earnings that others are earning in other countries,” he said.
He emphasised that these interventions form part of broader efforts to create an enabling environment for young people to thrive in Ghana’s growing digital economy.
