The Minister for Works, Housing, and Water Resources, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, has acknowledged Ghana’s growing housing deficit and reiterated the government’s commitment to delivering affordable, decent, and environmentally sustainable housing for Ghanaians.
Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony for the Green City Project at Dedesua in the Ashanti Region, the minister stressed that the government’s housing agenda extends beyond the provision of accommodation to include climate-conscious and sustainable urban development.
According to him, the Green City Project aligns with global climate action and green housing principles, with plans to incorporate environmentally friendly infrastructure and sustainable planning concepts throughout the development.
Mr. Adjei noted that the project represents the government’s broader vision of developing resilient communities that balance housing needs with environmental sustainability.
He further emphasized that housing should not be viewed as a luxury but a necessity and a critical foundation for national development, economic growth, and improved living conditions.
The minister assured that the Ministry of Works and Housing remains committed to implementing policies and projects that will expand access to affordable housing while promoting sustainable development across the country.
“We therefore invite investors and development partners to join us through innovative financing modules such as public-private partnerships and rent-to-own schemes. We can accelerate delivery and expand access,” he added.
