The government has taken a major step toward advancing its industrialisation drive following the incorporation of the Tema Integrated Industrial Parks Company Limited (TIIPco) to spearhead the development of a large-scale industrial enclave in Tema.
The initiative, being undertaken through the Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation (GIADEC) and TDC Ghana Ltd in partnership with ARISE Integrated Industrial Platforms, is expected to boost local manufacturing, create jobs, and deepen value addition within Ghana’s industrial sector.
As part of the project’s initial implementation phase, TDC Ghana Ltd has released a parcel of land situated near the Volta Aluminium Company smelter to the newly established company and granted it the right of Entry to commence preparatory works on the site.
The industrial park, which will occupy between 100 and 120 hectares within the Tema Heavy Industrial Area, is expected to serve as a strategic hub for industrial processing and export-oriented production.
In a statement released on Thursday, May 22, the official said the project aligns with the vision of President John Dramani Mahama to position Tema as a key industrial and manufacturing centre capable of driving economic transformation and large-scale employment opportunities.
The establishment of TIIPco follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding and a Shareholders’ Agreement among the participating institutions, paving the way for the operationalisation of the project.
The government believes the industrial enclave will strengthen Ghana’s push for local processing of raw materials while attracting both local and foreign investment into the manufacturing sector.
ARISE IIP, which is providing technical and operational expertise for the project, has built a reputation across Africa for developing integrated industrial ecosystems aimed at improving export competitiveness and sustainable industrial growth.
A sod-cutting ceremony to officially commence full-scale construction of the industrial park is expected to be led by the President in the coming weeks.
