Coordinator of Eco-Conscious Citizens, Awula Serwaa, has called for the immediate suspension of the Jacobu-Odotobri NDC Chairman in the Amansie Central District over alleged links to illegal mining activities in the Krobo Forest Reserve in the Ashanti Region.
Her call follows confirmation by the Ashanti South Police Command that it will prosecute four suspects arrested during a joint anti-galamsey operation conducted on Monday, May 11, 2026, within the protected forest.
The operation was carried out by the police in collaboration with Logeist Group Company Limited, targeting illegal mining activities in the reserve.
Although the police have not publicly detailed the alleged role of the local NDC chairman, reports suggest he is linked to attempts to interfere with the operation.
Speaking on Eyewitness News on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, Awula Serwaa insisted that the party official must be suspended pending investigations.
“I would like to say that immediately, he should be suspended and investigated. If any crime has been committed, he should be prosecuted and brought to court. He cannot be at post if this is what is going on,” she said.
“How can he be at a post of trust as we attempt to bring an end to this canker. So he should not be at post as of now?” she added.
The Ashanti South Police Command has reiterated that investigations are ongoing and assured that all individuals found culpable in illegal mining activities within protected forest reserves will be prosecuted.
