The National Security has raised concerns over what it describes as the blatant disregard of court orders and security directives by some traditional authorities in the Eastern Region.

According to the security outfit, such actions, particularly by certain actors within DISEC, MUSEC and REGSEC jurisdictions, are heightening tensions in affected communities and posing a threat to peace, with negative implications for economic and social activities.

Addressing the media in Koforidua on Tuesday, May 5, the Eastern Regional Security Liaison Officer, Francis Annoh Dompreh, cited recent incidents, including the arrest of a would-be chief during enstoolment activities at Adamrobe and alleged breaches of security directives in the Osenase area.

He warned that no traditional authority is above the Constitution of Ghana.

“A court issues a restraining order, yet almost immediately, you see them going ahead to do exactly what the court has prohibited. The RECSEC has advised against it, DISEC has also warned against it due to security concerns, but they still go ahead with impunity, as though they are above everyone else simply because they are Nananom,” he said.

Mr Annoh Dompreh further disclosed that prolonged chieftaincy disputes in parts of the region are placing a financial burden on government resources.

He stressed that National Security will take all necessary steps to ensure compliance with the law, adding that all traditional authorities must respect the legal framework governing the country.
