The Member of Parliament for Akuapem North, Samuel Awuku, has commissioned a new constituency office at Mamfe while simultaneously launching a comprehensive youth-focused skills and entrepreneurship programme, marking a significant step in his efforts to deepen local governance and tackle unemployment within the area.

The newly inaugurated Office of the Member of Parliament -Akuapem North Constituency, strategically located at Mamfe, the central hub of the constituency, was established to bridge the gap between constituents and parliamentary representation.

For years, residents have had to travel long distances to the Parliament House in Accra to engage their MP, a challenge Sammi Awuku said the office is designed to address.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony on Monday, May 4, 2026, the MP announced that he will personally operate from the office every Monday, ahead of parliamentary sittings which begin on Tuesdays.

He emphasized that the facility is open to all constituents, regardless of their political affiliation, describing it as a non-partisan space dedicated to addressing pressing issues in education, health, and social development.

“My focus is to bring leadership closer to the people and ensure that concerns affecting education, healthcare, and social welfare are addressed promptly,” he stated, urging residents to rally behind the initiative for the collective good of the constituency.

The event drew a broad cross-section of stakeholders, including the Chief of Mamfe, Osabarima Ansah Sasraku III, who commended the MP for the initiative and encouraged constituents to support efforts aimed at accelerating development.

The Municipal Chief Executive and heads of various institutions in the constituency were also in attendance, signaling widespread institutional backing for the project.

ANSDEP Launching

In a related development, Sammi Awuku officially launched the Akuapem North Skills Development and Entrepreneurship Programme (ANSDEP) at the Mamfe Presbyterian Hall, in collaboration with Blacksmith Africa and the Office of the MP.

The initiative is designed to equip young people with practical, income-generating skills while fostering entrepreneurship across the constituency.

The programme, themed “Empowering Skills, Creating Opportunities,” will train beneficiaries in areas such as soap making, baking, catfish farming, and Agro Processing. It is being implemented with support from corporate Ghana and other private individuals.

Addressing the gathering during the launch, Awuku underscored the importance of skills training as a pathway to economic independence, particularly for young people.

He urged the 120 apprentices enrolled in the programme to take their training seriously, warning that success would depend largely on discipline, commitment, and attitude.

“This is your opportunity to secure your future. Nobody will build your life for you; you must take this seriously because it will become your daily bread,” he advised.

He further noted that beyond technical skills, the programme seeks to instill values such as hard work, responsibility, and perseverance, which are essential for long-term success.

According to him, such initiatives are critical in reducing youth unemployment and promoting self-reliance within local communities.

The Chief of Mamfe also addressed beneficiaries, encouraging them to remain dedicated and disciplined throughout the training period while expressing appreciation to the MP for introducing a programme that directly impacts livelihoods.

The event featured remarks from key stakeholders, including traditional leaders, development partners, and programme facilitators.

A presentation by the managing partner of Blacksmith Africa outlined the project’s vision, highlighting its potential to transform local economies through skills development and entrepreneurship.

Beneficiaries of the programme expressed gratitude to Sammi Awuku for the initiative, describing it as timely and life-changing.

Many noted that the training provides them with a clear pathway to employment and financial independence.

The MP also referenced earlier interventions, including collaboration with the Akuapem Rural Bank to provide financial support to market women at the Ofie Market—an initiative he said is already yielding positive results.

He reiterated his commitment to expanding such programmes to benefit more constituents.

The dual launch of the MP’s office and the skills development programme reflects a broader strategy by Sammi Awuku to combine accessible leadership with practical economic empowerment, positioning Akuapem North as a model for constituency-level development driven by both governance and grassroots initiatives.
