Commuters using the Mampong–Ejura stretch in the Ashanti Region are appealing to government for urgent intervention following the collapse of the Sataso Bridge in the Mampong Municipality.
The bridge gave way on Monday, May 18, 2026, bringing movement and trading activities along the corridor to a halt. The route, which serves as a key link for transporting farm produce to major markets in cities such as Kumasi and Accra, has since become inaccessible.
The collapse has worsened an already deteriorating situation blamed on years of neglect, with motorists describing the stretch as a death trap. The onset of the rainy season has further deepened the challenges, making travel even more difficult.
The road connects major farming and trading communities including Ejura, Amantin, Atebubu and Yeji, making it a vital economic corridor for residents.
Drivers and commuters say the temporary diversion provided by the Mampong Municipal Assembly is inadequate, and are therefore calling on government to urgently fix the bridge to prevent accidents and restore smooth movement.
They argue that many farmers depend heavily on the route to transport their produce and are already suffering losses due to the disruption, stressing that immediate action is needed to restore the bridge.
“Many people in this area are farmers, and if the road is blocked, they will be severely affected. We are pleading with the government to help resolve this issue immediately,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Municipal Chief Executive for Mampong, Yakubu Yussif, lamented the current state bridge and assured that government was taking steps to address the challenges
“The good news is that I have been able to contact the Regional Minister. He has indicated that, God willing, a new contractor will be brought to the site tomorrow. The previous contractor, since 2024, has not been able to execute the project. So we are bringing in a new contractor to complete the work for us” he said.
