The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi has begun a series of stakeholder engagements ahead of the NPP’s upcoming national executive elections, paying courtesy calls on key party leaders including former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the party’s 2024 flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
Chairman Wontumi visited the two senior figures on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, together with his campaign team as part of consultations ahead of his expected bid for the position of National Chairman of the NPP.

The meetings, according to a statement from his media and communications office, are part of broader efforts to formally engage major stakeholders following his decision to contest once nominations for the position are opened.
During the interactions, Chairman Wontumi expressed appreciation to both Dr Bawumia and former President Akufo-Addo for their leadership and sacrifices to the party, particularly in the aftermath of the 2024 general elections.
He also reaffirmed his loyalty to the NPP and pledged support for efforts aimed at rebuilding the party towards the 2028 elections.
He officially informed the two leaders of his intention to contest for the National Chairmanship position, stressing that his ambition is driven by service, unity, grassroots mobilisation, and the strengthening of the party’s internal structures.
Chairman Wontumi assured that his campaign would remain disciplined, respectful, and issue-based, adding that it would avoid personal attacks, divisive rhetoric, or actions that could undermine party unity.
He further highlighted his experience within the party, including his tenure as Ashanti Regional Chairman, describing it as part of his contribution to strengthening grassroots mobilisation and electoral support for the NPP over the years.
According to him, rebuilding the party’s grassroots base and fostering inclusiveness, reconciliation, and unity will be critical to the NPP’s goal of returning to power in 2028.
He also sought the prayers and guidance of the two leaders, while emphasising the need for fairness and stability in the party’s internal electoral processes.
Chairman Wontumi and his team reiterated their commitment to the ideals of the NPP and pledged to contribute to ongoing efforts to reposition the party for electoral success.
The engagements form part of a wider nationwide consultation exercise aimed at promoting unity and strengthening the party’s structures ahead of its internal elections.
