The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has been recognised by the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) for its commitment to transparency, public accountability and constructive engagement with the media.
The recognition was conferred at the Second World Press Freedom Day Honours Night held in Accra on Saturday, June 6, 2026. According to the GJA, the award acknowledges the central bank’s sustained efforts to support national development through open communication and improved access to information on key economic and financial issues.
The honour comes at a time when the Bank of Ghana has intensified public engagement around monetary policy, inflation management, exchange rate stability and broader economic reforms.
The GJA noted that effective collaboration between public institutions and the media remains essential in promoting informed public discourse and strengthening accountability.
The award was received on behalf of the Bank by Director of Communications, Bernard Otabil, and Director of External Facilities and Project Administration, Mrs. Emelia Awuviri.
The World Press Freedom Day Honours Night is organised annually by the GJA to celebrate individuals and institutions that have made significant contributions to media excellence, press freedom and national development.
This year’s event placed particular emphasis on the role of partnerships between state institutions and the media in fostering transparency, accountability and public trust, values that remain critical to Ghana’s democratic and economic development.
