The Chairman of Parliament’s Health Committee and Member of Parliament for Nabdam, Dr. Mark Kurt Nawaane, has called for dialogue to resolve the ongoing impasse between doctors at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) and the Ministry of Health following the doctors’ strike action.
The industrial action follows the suspension of KATH Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Paa Kwesi Baidoo, after he announced the suspension of emergency services at the hospital.
Despite assurances from the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, during a meeting with the doctors, KATH doctors have maintained their strike, citing inconsistencies in a subsequent statement issued by the Ministry of Health.
Speaking in an interview with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News on Monday, June 8, 2026, Dr. Nawaane stressed the need for engagement between the parties involved to find a lasting solution to the dispute.
He expressed optimism that constructive engagement between the doctors, hospital management and the Ministry of Health would help bring the impasse to an end and ensure uninterrupted healthcare delivery to patients.
“Let’s concentrate, let’s dialogue and get solutions to it,” he said.
Dr. Nawaane also proposed that KATH collaborate with other healthcare facilities in Kumasi to address challenges arising from limited bed capacity at the hospital.
According to him, patients could be referred to facilities such as South Suntreso Hospital, Manhyia Hospital and other available health institutions to ease pressure on KATH while efforts are made to resolve the situation.
