KATH: Anaesthetists threaten strike in solidarity with KADA

The Komfo Anokye Certified Registered Anaesthetist Association (KACRA) has warned of possible industrial action in solidarity with the Komfo Anokye Doctors Association (KADA) and other health worker groups at the hospital if ongoing concerns over the facility’s leadership are not addressed.

In a statement signed by its Chairperson, David Karikari Amenku, the Association said it had been closely monitoring developments at the hospital following the suspension of the Chief Executive Officer of KATH. It argued that the decision fails to address what it describes as the “fundamental challenges” confronting healthcare delivery at the facility.

KACRA maintained that the core problems at the tertiary hospital are longstanding and structural, including infrastructural deficits, inadequate logistics, resource constraints, and rising patient numbers.

The Association further highlighted that health professionals continue to work under intense pressure due to overcrowding, limited equipment, and increasing clinical demands, stressing the need for sustainable investments rather than leadership changes.

As part of its recommendations, KACRA is calling for the accelerated completion and operationalisation of health infrastructure projects intended to decongest KATH and improve service delivery across the Ashanti Region and beyond. It is also demanding immediate investment in modern medical equipment and broader infrastructural expansion.

The group additionally urged authorities to reconsider the suspension of the hospital’s Chief Executive Officer, advocating instead for “constructive engagement and collaborative leadership” to address the hospital’s operational challenges.

KACRA warned that if concerns raised by healthcare worker associations are not addressed, it will stand in full solidarity with the Komfo Anokye Doctors Association (KADA) and allied groups in undertaking lawful industrial action to protect the welfare of health workers and patient care standards.
