A fire broke out at a substation facility belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in the Afienya area of the Greater Accra Region on Monday, June 8, 2026, sending thick smoke and visible flames into the sky, according to eyewitnesses.

The facility is located after the railway line that runs through the Afienya township. However, the extent of the damage could not immediately be independently verified.

Details regarding the cause of the fire, possible injuries, or any impact on electricity supply were not immediately available.

Emergency responders had not yet issued an official statement at the time of publication.

Residents in the area reported a significant blaze, raising concerns about potential damage to infrastructure and nearby properties.
