Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has assured Ghanaians that the government is implementing measures to stabilise the economy, create jobs, and improve livelihoods through key flagship programmes, including the 24-Hour Economy and the Big Push infrastructure initiative.
Addressing members of the Ghanaian community in Canada on Friday, June 19, the Vice President said the government remains focused on restoring economic stability, reducing the cost of living, and creating opportunities for citizens both at home and abroad.
She noted that efforts are underway to strengthen the economy through policies aimed at ensuring stable prices, lowering interest rates, and promoting sustainable growth.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang explained that the government’s proposed 24-Hour Economy policy is expected to expand business operations beyond traditional working hours, stimulate productivity, and generate employment opportunities across various sectors of the economy.
She also highlighted the Big Push infrastructure programme, describing it as a major intervention designed to improve road networks, enhance connectivity, and facilitate access to markets for businesses and farmers.
Touching on agriculture, the Vice President said the government is supporting farmers through initiatives such as Feed Ghana and the establishment of Farmer Service Centres to boost agricultural productivity and strengthen food security.
She further outlined a number of social intervention programmes being implemented by the government, including the No-Fees Stress policy, MahamaCares, Free Primary Healthcare, and the Women’s Development Bank, which is intended to provide financial support for women entrepreneurs.
According to her, these interventions form part of a broader strategy to improve the welfare of Ghanaians and create opportunities for national development.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang encouraged members of the Ghanaian diaspora to remain engaged with developments back home and support efforts aimed at accelerating the country’s economic transformation.
