Veteran Ghanaian actor Fred Amugi has sparked public discussion after stating that, if given the chance to live his life again, he would not choose marriage.
Fred Amugi explained that while he values friendships and relationships, he would prefer not to formalise them through marriage if he had the chance to start over.
The actor attributed his views partly to the significant changes in society and family life over the years.
According to him, traditional marriage dynamics have evolved as women increasingly pursue education and professional careers, altering the structure of modern households.
“In my next life, if I am asked what I won’t want to repeat from my previous life, I would say marriage. Before, women didn’t chase careers and office work, so they were usually at home. But now, whatever a man can learn, women can also do the same. And these changes have also affected marital institutions,” he said in an interview with gospel musician Piesie Esther on Sunday, June 21
Although he stopped short of discussing specific difficulties in his own marriage, Amugi acknowledged that many people mistakenly believe his home life is trouble-free because he rarely speaks publicly about personal matters.
“I’m someone who doesn’t talk about my issues outside, so people assume my home is peaceful. So if I am starting again, I won’t consider marriage.”
His comments have since generated mixed reactions online, with some social media users interpreting the remarks as a sign that the actor may be facing challenges in his marriage, while others viewed them as a broader reflection on changing marital realities.
