Businessman Ibrahim Mahama has offered 100 job opportunities to Ghanaian nationals evacuated from South Africa following recent xenophobic attacks and anti-immigrant protests in the country.

The announcement was made by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, when he welcomed a fresh batch of evacuees at the Accra International Airport on the night of Saturday, June 7, 2026.

According to the minister, the jobs form part of efforts to support the reintegration of Ghanaians who voluntarily returned home after losing businesses, jobs and other assets amid the unrest in South Africa.

“I am so impressed that already, about 200 jobs have been secured for you and leading the path is Mr. Ibrahim Mahama’s Engineers and Planners. They have offered 100 jobs,” Ablakwa told the returnees.

He added that telecommunications companies AirtelTigo and Telecel had also pledged support, with more corporate institutions expressing interest in assisting the evacuees.

“I want to also thank AirtelTigo and Telecel, they have also reached out. There are many other CEOs calling that they are going to be part of this programme. They are not going to sit back and just watch you having lost everything, businesses and assets. They are going to partner with government to make sure you are fully integrated,” he said.

The latest batch of evacuees arrived in Accra as part of an ongoing government evacuation exercise involving more than 1,500 Ghanaian nationals who opted to return home following renewed xenophobic violence and anti-immigrant demonstrations in parts of South Africa.

Government says the reintegration programme will include employment opportunities and other forms of support aimed at helping the returnees rebuild their lives.

The first flight of the second batch brought approximately 345 evacuees to Ghana, with another flight carrying more than 300 passengers expected to arrive as the evacuation exercise continues.
