The Member of Parliament for Abetifi, Dr Bryan Acheampong, has appealed to former New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirant Kennedy Agyapong to set aside his differences with the party and support efforts to rebuild unity ahead of the 2028 general election.
His appeal comes on the back of a statement by the former Assin Central MP that he will not be intimidated or silenced by criticism from within the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
He warned that continued attempts to dismiss or challenge his claims could prompt him to reveal additional information.
“NPP should be careful with me, saying I am bitter. If they provoke me, I will spill the beans all over the place,” he cautioned.
But in a statement issued on Friday, June 19, 2026, Dr Bryan Acheampong acknowledged the disappointment that follows a failed presidential bid, noting that he shared a similar experience after contesting the NPP’s January 2026 presidential primary.
“I speak to you today not as a bystander to our recent contest, but as one who stood in it,” he said, adding that he understood “the weight of disappointment that follows a hard-fought campaign and the depth of emotion invested by candidates and supporters alike.”
The Abetifi lawmaker further said: “Our party suffered a painful defeat in 2024. The single most important task before us between now and 2028 is to rebuild, to reunite, and to return to power.”
Dr Acheampong, however expressed concern over recent remarks by Mr Agyapong and what he described as threats of action against the party and certain individuals.
“Ken is a son of this party. A man whose energy, resources and loyalty over decades cannot be questioned.
“It is for that very reason that I urge him, respectfully but firmly, to lower the temperature and to lend his considerable influence to the work of healing rather than division.”
The former presidential aspirant also appealed to supporters of both camps to avoid actions that could deepen divisions within the party.
“So, I appeal to Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, to his supporters, and to mine: let us lay down the weapons of internal warfare,” he said.
“Let us close ranks behind our flagbearer so that in 2028 we restore the New Patriotic Party to the service of the people of Ghana.”
Dr Acheampong stressed that personal grievances should not be allowed to derail the party’s efforts to regain power, insisting that unity remained the NPP’s best path to electoral recovery.
