The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Special Operations Team from the National Police Headquarters, Accra, working with the Ashanti Regional Police Command, has arrested 186 suspects in a coordinated intelligence-led crackdown on organised criminal networks across parts of the Ashanti Region.

The operations, carried out between 8 and 17 June 2026, were part of a sustained security drive targeting networks involved in human trafficking, sexual exploitation, narcotics trafficking, and unlawful possession of firearms. Acting on detailed intelligence, officers executed carefully planned raids across multiple communities.
The coordinated operations covered several locations including Asafo, Kenyase Aframa, Asokwa, Buokrom, Krofrom, Atonsu-Bokuro, Asawase, and Old Tafo Ahenbronum. Security personnel conducted surveillance and profiling prior to the raids, leading to simultaneous arrests across the selected hotspots.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, June 23, the Police indicated that 186 suspects comprised of 86 Ghanaian nationals, 96 Nigerians, and four Togolese nationals. One of the most significant arrests occurred on 9 June 2026 at Kenyase Aframa, where officers detained Gladys Ibrahim, also known as “Mama Gee,” alongside the foreign nationals.
During the operation, security personnel also rescued several individuals believed to be victims of exploitation. Authorities confirmed that some of the rescued persons are minors, who have since been separated from the suspects and placed under protective care in line with child protection protocols.

Foreign nationals identified as victims are currently being processed in collaboration with the Ghana Immigration Service for appropriate immigration assessment and possible repatriation.

Security authorities have commended the Special Operations Team and the Ashanti Regional Police Command for what they describe as a well-coordinated and intelligence-driven operation that led to the arrests and rescues.

Investigations remain ongoing as police work to identify additional members of the network and dismantle any remaining cells. All suspects are in custody and assisting with investigations.
