The Akim Oda Divisional Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with the attempted theft of cocoa beans from a stranded truck at Akim Asuboa in the Asene Manso Akroso District of the Eastern Region.
The suspect, identified as Kwasi Brako, also known as Anas, was apprehended following a police operation after he was identified as part of a group accused of stealing sacks of cocoa beans from a truck that had developed a mechanical fault.
According to police, the MAN diesel truck, with registration number AS 3650-S, was fully loaded with sacks of cocoa beans and was en route to the Tema Harbour for onward shipment when it broke down at Akim Asuboa.
While the driver waited for the fault to be repaired, a group of young men allegedly took advantage of the situation and began offloading sacks of cocoa beans from the vehicle.
The suspects reportedly fled into nearby bushes when a police patrol team arrived at the scene.
Subsequent investigations led to the identification of Kwasi Brako, who was later arrested at his hideout.
Police said the suspect sustained injuries while allegedly resisting arrest and attempting to escape lawful custody. He is currently receiving treatment at the Akim Oda Government Hospital.
The police have intensified investigations and are pursuing the remaining suspects who remain at large.
They have appealed to the public to provide any information that could assist in locating and arresting the other individuals involved in the incident.
