The Tema Regional Police Command has seized 12 sacks and 80 parcels of compressed plant material suspected to be Indian hemp during an operation along the Tema–Ada road, leading to the arrest of a truck driver.

The suspected narcotics were discovered on Sunday, May 31, 2026, during an operation by officers of the Tema Highway Patrol Unit.

According to a police statement, the substances were concealed in a container and wrapped in sellotape inside a Hyundai Mighty II container truck.

Police said the driver, identified as Bismark Koprneno, failed to stop when signaled by officers and attempted to evade arrest. He was subsequently pursued and apprehended at Bondase.

“A search conducted on the vehicle led to the discovery of twelve (12) sacks and eighty (80) parcels of compressed plant materials concealed in a container and wrapped in sellotape,” the statement said.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspected narcotics were loaded at Kpeve in the Volta Region and were being transported to Ada.

The suspect is currently in police custody assisting with investigations, while the vehicle and the seized exhibits have been impounded for evidential purposes.

The Tema Regional Police Command said it remains committed to tackling drug trafficking and other criminal activities in the region.

“The Tema Regional Police Command wishes to assure the public of its continued commitment to combating drug trafficking and other criminal activities and urges citizens to support law enforcement efforts by providing timely and credible information on suspicious activities,” the statement added.
