Broadcast journalist Godfred Akoto Boafo has commended Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz and his technical team following Ghana’s goalless draw with England at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ghana held England to a 0-0 draw on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, in a disciplined and tactically organised performance that drew widespread praise.
Speaking on Channel One TV’s The Point of View with Bernard Avle on Wednesday, June 24, Akoto Boafo attributed the result to the intensive preparation undertaken by the team during its training camp ahead of the tournament.
According to him, the investment in the players’ physical conditioning during the first weeks of camp played a key role in their performance against England.
He also praised Queiroz and his technical team for implementing a clear tactical plan and ensuring that players fully adhered to it on the pitch.
Akoto Boafo noted that post-match comments from players suggested a strong understanding and buy-in of the coach’s instructions across the squad.
He referenced remarks by Gideon Mensah and Kwasi Sibo, who indicated that players strictly followed tactical directives throughout the game.
The journalist said the level of discipline on display contrasted with previous Black Stars squads, where players were sometimes seen deviating from the coach’s game plan.
He expressed confidence that the team’s commitment to the coach’s philosophy was a key factor in securing the draw against one of the tournament favourites.
“It really showed that the investment in the bodies of the players that was made in the first two and a half weeks of training camp for the World Cup really, really paid off. And again, I see credit to Carlos Queiroz and his technical team for being able to see this, for being able to execute it and also getting buy-in. Because some of these players would want to play their own way.”
He added: “We’ve seen Black Stars teams where the coach wants to do something, and some of the players on the pitch would want to do another thing. It is pretty clear in the mixed zone when the players came out. Gideon Mensah and Kwasi Sibo alluded to this. They said the coach told us this is what we are supposed to do. Everybody understood what the coach wanted; you dare not stray from this.”
