SIC Insurance PLC has officially unveiled a fleet of electric vehicles as it launches its Green Transition Agenda, marking what the Managing Director (MD) James Agyenim-Boateng called “another defining moment” in the company’s history.

Speaking at the unveiling ceremony, Mr. Agyenim-Boateng said the initiative demonstrates SIC’s commitment to supporting Ghana’s climate action goals and sustainable development priorities, including reduced carbon emissions and cleaner transportation.

The MD recalled that over a year ago, SIC began powering selected branches with solar energy. Though modest in scale, the pilot was meant to signal intent beyond talk.

Mr. Agyenim-Boateng described the new electric vehicles and charging infrastructure installed at selected locations as more than a change in mobility.

The SIC Insurance MD said the EV rollout should not be viewed as the destination but as the beginning of a broader transformation.

“These vehicles represent a change in how this company thinks about its footprint, about its responsibility and about the kind of future we want to help build for Ghana and for the generations that will come after us.

“Solar power today, electric vehicles now, and I have no doubt many more milestones will come soon as we continue to position ourselves not just as a leader in insurance, but as a responsible corporate citizen committed to the well-being of our environment and our nation.

“SIC Insurance is prepared to do more than talk about sustainability; we were prepared to invest in it,” he said.

He argued that as an insurer whose business is managing risk and protecting what matters, it would be inconsistent to underwrite protection against risk while ignoring climate change — “one of the greatest risks of our time to lives, property, economies and communities.”

He described SIC as a forward-looking organisation balancing profitability with environmental stewardship and social impact.

He commended the Board of Directors, management, staff, partners and stakeholders for their role in making the Green Transition possible, urging other institutions to emulate them by helping to build a greener Ghana.

The pilot has since yielded encouraging results, and plans are “well advanced” to extend solar power to major branches across the country.
