The Upper West Regional Minister, Charles Lwanga Puozuing, says about 1,400 Burkinabe nationals are currently being accommodated at a resettlement site in the region.

He explained that the facility is located in Zini in the Sissala West District, near the border with Burkina Faso, and is being managed as part of efforts to handle the influx.

He made the comments on Eyewitness News on Citi FM on Tuesday, June 23, while responding to questions on how the situation is being managed.

According to him, the number of people at the site has grown from about 700 previously to around 1,400, with most being women and young people.

He said the site was initially made up of tents but has now been upgraded with more permanent structures, with support from agencies including the Ghana Refugee Board and UNHCR.

He added that training and support services are being provided, including language lessons to help children learn both French and English.

He also noted that security has been strengthened, with police and military personnel deployed to the area.

The Minister said all arrivals are screened to determine their identity and reasons for entering the country, adding that the situation remains calm and under control.
