A waste collector has been handed over to the Tema Community One Police after he was allegedly caught dumping refuse into a drainage channel at Site Zero in Tema Community One.
The suspect, identified only as Musah, was reportedly apprehended around 3:00 am on Tuesday, June 9, while allegedly disposing of several bags of rubbish into a gutter in the community.
Residents who witnessed the act raised the alarm, leading to his arrest.
The Assembly Member for the Padmore Electoral Area, Charles Amos, said he received a distress call from residents at about 3:00 am and rushed to the scene.
According to him, upon arrival, he found several black polythene bags filled with refuse dumped into the drainage system under the cover of darkness.
Mr. Amos told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the suspect claimed he had collected the waste from Community Two and intended to change the bags before transporting them elsewhere.
He said the suspect was subsequently handed over to the Tema Community One Police Station to assist with investigations.
Mr. Amos expressed concern over what he described as the irresponsible behaviour of some individuals, warning that such acts undermine ongoing efforts to keep the community clean and healthy.
He noted that residents, community leaders, and sanitation stakeholders had invested significant resources into maintaining environmental cleanliness, adding that such incidents could reverse the gains made.
