President John Dramani Mahama has told Panama’s High Commissioner to Ghana, Isbeth Lisbeth Quiel Murcia, that Ghana has the better team ahead of the Black Stars’ 2026 FIFA World Cup clash with Panama.

He made the remark on Tuesday, June 17, when he received the credentials of seven newly accredited envoys at a ceremony in Accra.

The diplomats included the High Commissioner of Malta, Ronald Micallef; Ambassador of the Russian Federation, Andrei Ordash; Ambassador of Poland, Michal Cygan; Ambassador of Indonesia, Bambang Suharto; Ambassador of Panama, Isbeth Lisbeth Quiel Murcia; Ambassador of Armenia, Armen Sargsyan; and Ambassador of Tanzania, Selestine Gervas Kakele.

The ceremony formed part of the formal presentation of diplomatic credentials by the envoys, marking the beginning of their official duties in Ghana.

During the interaction, President Mahama exchanged brief remarks with the Panamanian envoy ahead of Ghana’s World Cup opener against Panama.

He jokingly stated that Ghana had a “better team,” in reference to the upcoming match, drawing a light-hearted moment at the ceremony.

The event highlighted Ghana’s continued diplomatic engagement with partner countries and the strengthening of bilateral relations with the newly accredited ambassadors and high commissioners.
