National chairman hopeful for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Awentami Paul Afoko, has underscored the critical role of women in rebuilding and repositioning the party ahead of the 2028 general elections, insisting that the NPP cannot achieve meaningful renewal or return to power without placing women at the centre of its activities and decision-making.
Addressing party supporters and delegates on Tuesday, July 14, Afoko outlined his vision for a more inclusive NPP, stressing that women remain one of the party’s greatest strengths and must be given greater opportunities to contribute to its growth and electoral success.
According to him, the future of the NPP depends on harnessing the talents, dedication and leadership abilities of women at every level of the party, from the grassroots to the national executive.
Afoko noted that women have consistently played vital roles in the party’s organisation, mobilisation and campaigning over the years, adding that their contributions must be recognised through meaningful inclusion in the party’s rebuilding efforts.
He argued that any strategy aimed at strengthening the NPP and preparing it for victory in the next general election would be incomplete if it failed to actively involve women in leadership, planning and grassroots mobilisation.
Emphasising the importance of women’s participation, Afoko said the NPP must deliberately create an environment where women are empowered to take on greater responsibilities and influence the party’s direction.
“I say this in all seriousness. No serious renewal of the NPP can take place without women at the centre of it. Women are organisers, they are good communicators, business leaders, professionals and we have them all over.
“Women are farmers, they are traders, caregivers and strategists. Women are the backbone of our homes, communities and party structures. The NPP cannot recapture power without women and Ghana cannot prosper without women.”
