The death toll from the multi-vehicle crash at Odumasi on the Kumasi-Accra Highway has risen to 13 after security personnel retrieved another body from the wreckage following reports from family members of a missing relative.

Initial reports from the Ghana National Fire Service indicated that 12 people had died, while 44 others sustained varying degrees of injuries. However, a thorough search of the crash scene led to the discovery of an additional body, bringing the death toll to 13.

Speaking to Citi News, the Konongo Divisional Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) Commander, ASP Frank Asare Awuah, said the additional body was recovered after an extensive search of the wreckage.

He added that eight of the injured victims have since been treated and discharged, while those still receiving care are responding to treatment.

ASP Awuah noted that investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the crash.

The accident occurred shortly before midnight on Wednesday, July 15, and involved a DAF XF cargo truck loaded with boxes of tomatoes, a Tata passenger bus, and a DAF XF fuel tanker.
