The Chairman of the Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, has outlined four key approaches he believes can help transform Ghana and build a new generation of responsible citizens.
Delivering the sermon at the 2026 National Day of Prayer in Accra on Wednesday, July 1, he called for a deliberate national reset anchored on moral renewal, education reform, institutional reorientation, and strengthened family values.
He said such measures are necessary to curb corruption, unemployment, and declining patriotism.
He first urged a “renewing of the mind,” stressing the need for Ghanaians to move away from wickedness and embrace ethical living as a foundation for national transformation.
According to him, meaningful change must begin at the individual level before it can reflect in national development.
On education, Apostle Nyamekye proposed the introduction of structured civic and ethics training from the basic level up to tertiary institutions. He suggested that subjects such as ethics and national development should be compulsory for all students, regardless of their professional path, to help curb corruption and build patriotism from an early age.
He also called for a stronger focus on entrepreneurship within the education system, arguing that equipping young people with practical skills could reduce unemployment and enable at least 20% of graduates to create jobs for themselves and others.
The third point, he noted, was a call for the Church to refocus its mandate. He cautioned against overemphasis on material and ritual practices, urging religious institutions to prioritise the raising of righteous individuals who can positively influence society in their various fields.
Finally, Apostle Nyamekye emphasised the need to restore family altars and strengthen Christian homes, describing the family unit as a critical foundation for moral upbringing and national development. He said sustainable change must begin in households before it can be reflected in broader society.
“May this small body of us new Ghanaians here and beyond be fired up by an unconscionable faith in our mission to reset our values and build the Ghana we want. Let us alter the course of this nation for a better Ghana, forever and ever. Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin condemns us all. God bless Ghana,” he declared.
