The John Evans Atta Mills Memorial Heritage has announced a series of activities to mark the 14th anniversary of the death of former President Prof. John Evans Atta Mills, with organisers emphasising that the commemoration is intended to rise above partisan politics.

The highlight of the programme is the 14th President John Evans Atta Mills Commemorative Anniversary Lecture, scheduled for July 22, 2026, on the theme,” President John Evans Atta Mills: Fourteen Years On.”

A wreath-laying ceremony and memorial service will also be held on the 24th of July, 2026.

Speaking at the launch, Chairman of the Heritage, Alex Segbefia, said the choice of former Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, as guest speaker and former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hanna Tetteh, as chairperson reflects the organisation’s commitment to promoting the late President’s legacy as a national, rather than partisan, figure.

“It’s not about the NPP and the NDC. It’s about the man,” he said.

He noted that although the chairperson and guest speaker come from different political backgrounds, they share a common appreciation of the values President Mills stood for.

“The man touched many lives in different ways, and that’s why we have chosen to celebrate his heritage so that we never forget what he stood for,” he said.

Segbefia added that Ghana’s progress depends on embracing principles and values that transcend political party lines.

“If Ghana is to move forward as a country, there must be principles and values that are neither NPP nor NDC, but truly Ghanaian,” he said.

The Heritage said the anniversary activities are aimed at preserving the memory, values and enduring legacy of the late President, who died on July 24, 2012.
