Marvin Senaya has revealed that he will undergo surgery after suffering an injury during Ghana’s defeat to Colombia at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, a setback that will keep him out of action for an extended period.

In a message posted on Facebook on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, the 25-year-old defender said the injury, sustained in the opening minutes of Ghana’s Round of 32 match on July 3, marked one of the most difficult moments of his career.

“I don’t even know where to begin, July 3rd, 2026. Without a doubt, one of the hardest nights of my life,” he wrote.

Senaya, who plays for French Ligue 1 side Auxerre and made his international debut for Ghana earlier this year after switching allegiance from France, said he was devastated to leave the pitch early and be unable to help the Black Stars in their bid to progress in the tournament.

“First of all, we gave everything we had to take Ghana to where it belongs: at the top of the world. To the people of Ghana, we gave our all to make you proud, but unfortunately, we fell short,” he said.

The right-back was forced off with the injury in the early stages of the match as Ghana lost 1-0 to Colombia, ending the Black Stars’ World Cup campaign. Reports indicate the injury requires surgery and is expected to sideline him for several months.

“Then came my injury in the opening minutes of the match. I wish I could have stayed on the field and helped my teammates battle until the end, but unfortunately, I had to leave the pitch,” he wrote.

“This injury means I need surgery, and it will keep me away from the game for a while. But believe me when I say this: I will come back stronger than you have ever seen me before.”

“I know that God’s plan is always good, and that He tests me only to bless me even more, in the name of Jesus,” he said.

The defender also thanked his teammates, the coaching staff and Ghanaian supporters for their encouragement throughout the tournament.

“I want to congratulate and thank all my teammates and the entire coaching staff for everything we shared together, for their support, and for all our performances,” he said.

“I also want to thank the people of Ghana who supported us from near and far. Your love and encouragement pushed us every single day to give our very best. We promise to come back stronger and make you even prouder in the future.”

He ended his message with a pledge to return to action, saying: “Thank you for everything, and I’ll see you back on the pitch soon. Go Ghana, Go Black Stars.”
