The Chief Justice, Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, has directed that all courts in the Greater Accra Region should not sit on Tuesday, July 28, and Friday, July 31, 2026, to allow judges and magistrates to participate in activities marking the 150th anniversary of the Supreme Court.
The directive, contained in a notice issued by the Judicial Service of Ghana, applies to all judges and magistrates within the region.
According to the Judicial Service, the suspension of court proceedings will enable members of the bench to fully participate in the climax and thanksgiving activities scheduled as part of the anniversary celebrations.
The main anniversary event will be held on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at the Ohene Konadu Auditorium of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), while the thanksgiving service will take place on Friday, July 31, at the Accra Ridge Church.
The Judicial Service described the events as significant milestones in the history of Ghana’s highest court and urged judges and magistrates to participate in the celebrations.
The Supreme Court’s 150th anniversary celebrations were launched on April 16, 2026, with a series of activities planned to commemorate the institution’s contribution to Ghana’s justice system over the years.
