The Member of Parliament for Tamale South, Haruna Iddrisu, has paid tribute to the late Yaa Naa Abukari Mahama II, describing him as a great unifier whose reign contributed significantly to peace and reconciliation in the Dagbon Kingdom.
In a tribute shared on Monday, July 13, Mr. Iddrisu said Dagbon had “lost more than a king,” emphasising that the late traditional ruler was a bridge-builder who worked to strengthen unity and restore harmony among the people.
According to the Tamale South MP, Yaa Naa Abukari Mahama’s leadership was marked by efforts to promote reconciliation and preserve the peace achieved within the kingdom.
“Your Majesty, Yaa Naa Abukari Mahama II, built bridges, inspired reconciliation, and left behind a legacy of peace that will endure for generations. The greatest tribute we can pay to your memory is to preserve and strengthen the unity you restored by faithfully upholding our cherished rotational succession tradition,” he stated.
Mr. Iddrisu further noted that the late Yaa Naa built on the enduring legacy of his predecessors by strengthening relationships among the people of Dagbon through his commitment to peace and reconciliation.
He urged the people of Dagbon to honour the memory of Yaa Naa Abukari Mahama II by protecting the unity he helped restore and ensuring the continued observance of the kingdom’s rotational succession tradition.
